What a video uniquifier is
A video uniquifier is a tool that takes one video and makes several versions of it. Each version looks like the same video to a viewer, but the files are different from each other.
People use them when they post their own content on more than one account. Instead of uploading one identical file everywhere, each account gets its own version. That helps each copy read as its own upload.
A uniquifier is for your own videos, or videos you have permission to post. It is not a way to take someone else's work.
Why people use one
Platforms are built to notice identical content. Instagram, for example, said in April 2024 that when it finds identical pieces of content it recommends only the original. If five accounts post one identical file, those posts compete with each other.
Making versions by hand is slow. You would have to edit the clip a different way for each account and export it each time, often losing quality along the way. A uniquifier does that work in one go.
No tool can promise how a platform will rank a post. A good uniquifier gives each account a cleaner starting point. That is all it can honestly claim.
What to look for
These are the things that separate a useful tool from one that quietly hurts your videos:
1. It keeps resolution, frame rate and sharpness
Every copy should look as good as your original. Some tools shrink the video, drop the frame rate or compress it heavily, so the copies come out soft or choppy. Viewers notice, even if they can't say why.
Check a copy at full screen on a phone. Compare it side by side with the original. If the copy looks worse, every account will be posting a worse video.
2. It doesn't cut the start of the clip
The first second of a short video is usually the hook. Some tools make copies different by trimming frames off the beginning. That can remove the exact moment that makes people stop scrolling.
Look for a tool that changes the video without cutting into the start.
3. You don't have to touch any settings
Some tools hand you dozens of sliders. That sounds flexible, but it means you have to know which settings are safe, and one wrong value can wreck a whole batch.
A good tool picks sensible edits for you by default and keeps each copy different from the others without you having to tune anything. In Fresh Copies, Auto does this, and Manual controls are optional if you want to set the edits yourself.
4. It runs without tying up your computer
Processing video is heavy work. Desktop tools can keep your computer busy for a long time, especially with large batches or 4K files. Some also need you to keep the app open until everything finishes.
A tool that runs in the cloud lets you upload, close the tab and come back to finished copies.
5. You can check the copies yourself
Don't just trust a tool's own claims. Test the copies. Our free copy checker compares your copies to the original and to each other, right on your device. Your files never leave it.
It works with copies from any tool, so you can use it to compare options before you commit. If you want a side by side look at how different tools approach this, see our comparison page.
Warning signs
Be careful with any tool that does one of these:
- Promises results on a platform. No tool can promise how a platform will rank a post.
- Only renames files or changes hidden file details. The video itself stays identical.
- Gives you copies that look softer or smaller than your original.
- Suggests using it on videos you didn't make.
How Fresh Copies fits
Fresh Copies is a video uniquifier that runs in the cloud, with nothing to install. In Auto, every copy is reframed off-center and gets its own combination of small edits, such as a slight zoom, mirroring, a color or brightness change, or film grain, plus a small pitch shift on the audio.
Copies keep the original resolution, frame rate and sharpness, and we don't cut the start of the clip. Auto picks the edits by default, and Manual controls are optional. You can make up to 767 unique versions per clip, all at full quality, and each copy gets a uniqueness score.
Copies are numbered per creator, and photos work too. Free trial: 20 copies. No card.
Common questions
Is a video uniquifier the same as an editor?
Not quite. An editor is for making your video. A uniquifier takes a finished video and makes several versions of it, so each account can post its own file.
Can a uniquifier control how a platform treats my posts?
No. No honest tool can promise that, and that is not the point. A uniquifier helps each copy read as its own upload. How a platform ranks a post is up to the platform.
Can I use a uniquifier on other people's videos?
You should only use it on videos you made or have permission to post. Reposting other people's content without permission is unfair to them and goes against platform rules.
How do I know if my copies are different enough?
Test them. The free copy checker compares copies to the original and to each other on your own device, and works with copies from any tool.
